Frugal Festive Christmas Party Ideas Needed

This year I want to step outside of my comfort zone and actually have a few people over at Christmas.  Not for a formal Christmas dinner but more of a little friendly get together.  My idea so far is to watch Elf while we eat and just relax.  I need some ideas for snacks.  I'm thinking it will be a small affair, maybe 10 of us total.  So if you have any recipe ideas please share!

I'm trying to plan and be prepared so it doesn't slip up on me before it's too late.

I kind of like this photo.  It's very cute.  Seems doable.  What do you think?

  1. Assorted crackers (ALdi's will have a box of fancy assorted crackers come the holidays, a few blocks of cheese such as Cheddar, Swiss, and a soft cheese spread such as Aldi's version of Boursin. Add the contents of a pouch of presliced, Aldi's Pepperoni.
A crudite tray (cut up your own carrot and celery sticks, chop some broccoli crowns and one red pepper into strips. Mix store brand sour cream with a box of dried veggie soup mix (think Knorr) =instant dip
Add some Winter fruit such as grapes, orange slices or mandarines, pineapple cubes (drained, canned is fine) sliced apples (leave peel on for color and drizzle with lemon juice to prevent browning) -calorie counters will appreciate this option..
Popcorn is always a hit: make your own, top with butter, perhaps a popcorn sprinkle (or just some shaker Parmesan cheese) Aldi's will soon be selling their popcorn spinkles-very good, reasonably priced.
