I'm in a Fashion Quandry

I'm in desperate need of clothes. Work clothes mostly.  It's very hard to find clothes when you are plus sized. Thrift stores are not exactly filled with nice plus sizes. I don't like big boxy moo moos but I don't want to dress like a teenager. Can't designers make AFFORDABLE cute plus size clothes?  I just saw a really pretty dress in Lane Bryant. $119!!  Can't swing that. It's very disappointing.

  1. Lee Ann-can you wear pants? My work wardrobe consists of black dress pants (Kohl's sale plus promo) plus assorted tops/sweaters/scarves-everything is mix/match for more mileage. Have you tried different thrifts or consignments than you usually frequent? I just replenished my wardrobe with several tops-some were second hand, others JCPenny combining sale plus promo. Good luck!

  2. Bcak in the dark ages, when I worked, I had a similar quandry...I am very small, though. Back then, juniors were absurd, and petites were limited, and made for a MUCH older mind set. An outfit still go to, though, is a black dress wiith blazer, (I had many color combos back then, now it's only basic black. short jacket, or flowy-wrap based on event. (Not that I get out much anymore.) If the dress you like can be paired with other things you own, I say get would be a base for many outfits. Find a good basic dress, skirt and pants, then mix with inexpensive tops. Keep perusing the thrift shops. And, I agree about clothing manufacturers....try finding appropriate yet stylish clothes for a tween's very hard, and I am one of the LEAST conservative people I know. Her wardrobe is leggings, and thigh length hoodies or tunics/swing tops. The jeans are either $$$ or just...NO.

  3. I have been reading your blog for a while but I don't think I have ever commented. :)

I am plus sized as well... and have the same issue that the thrift stores aren't very well stocked with plus size clothes unless you like the moo-moo look. I have had luck recently buying some clothes off of Old classic v-neck shirts, tank tops and dresses. I tend to buy their tall shirts as they are long enough and don't shrink. I did just buy a nice black dress that comes to just below my knees from Old Navy that can be worn dressed up with heels or dressed down with sandals. Pants wise I have a black pair of dress pants from Khols, and a pair of khakis and 2 pairs of jeans that I love from Walmart that I rotate wearing. Now if I could just find some spring shoes that look cute on me I would be all set (I wear boots in the winter and sandals in the summer).
