Food Trucks in Gtown!

Do you watch the Food Network?  If so did you watch the Food Truck Race?  A truck from Raleigh won it this year. Phenomenal Dumplings. They were part of the Food Truck group in my town of Garner. I've never eaten from a food truck so we gave it a try.

I got the dumplings made with pork and chives. It was really good. The hubster ate a fancy grilled cheese from The Great American Meltdown. It was superb!  We sat on a bench and people watched for a couple of hours. It really was fun.

Goodness Grows in NC

So I took a quick jaunt to the Farmers Market to buy some salsa and see the gorgeous fall colors in the flowers and veggies. Here are some glimpses in my morning:

Aren't those eggplants pretty?

this German bakery has yummy treats!

I love red bell peppers!

Nothing like fresh North Carolina seafood-it simply is the best!

The best salsa you will ever taste, I promise.

Fun in the NC Mountains

We took Thursday and Friday off to go to the mountains for a Thursday night football game. The weather was perfect and the sights were great. Plus it always helps to beat your most heated rivals. Here are some random pics of our time there

These photos are just a couple taken from sights around and in Kidd Brewer Stadium.  The mountains surround the stadium making it just beautiful.

The band always plays the Tennessee Waltz after every game.

These photos were taken out and about in the quaint Town of Blowing Rock, NC.  I so want to move there.  If you've ever read any of Jan Karon's books well rumor has it the town in the books is based on Blowing Rock!

The photos below were taken in the Six Pence Pub in Blowing Rock.  Great food and atmosphere!

McCormick Skillet Sauce Review-Chili

I made a pot of chili tonight using, obviously, McCormick's Skillet Sauce for Chili.  I like it but find it easier to get everything out of tomato sauce cans.  You have to keep squeezing the package to make sure you get everything out of it.  I would suggest getting scissors and cut it open to make sure you get every last drop!

I did not drain the beans nor the diced tomatoes.  My personal opinion would be to drain the tomatoes as it had too much of a tomato taste for us.  However, we added shredded sharp cheddar cheese and sour cream in our bowls and it was quite tasty.

Will I buy it again?  Yes I would!

Monday Thankfulness

Today sees me off at work.  In fact I only work 2 days this week.  Tuesday and Wednesday.  Thursday and Friday we will be having fun.  I took today off to take my car in for its 10,000 mile check up.  My appointment was at 8:30 and I got there at 8.  They had "free" Starbucks coffee and hot chocolate, muffins etc.  I say "free" because we bought my car new in January and I'm sure we are paying for alot of "free" things if you know what I mean.

Well...................afterwards I ran a few errands.  Thanks to I bought 6 Mccormick sauces plus a 2016 small planner.  Then on to Aldi and bought a pound of organic ground beef for $6.99 a pound.

I was thinking today that I am thankful that I have a job in which to take a day off from.  Does that make sense?  There are a lot of people still looking for jobs or perhaps they have a job but it doesn't allow for much time off.  Maybe they get a weeks vacation and they don't want to waste one taking their car to the dealer for a check up.  So I am very grateful and thankful that I get 20 hours of time off a month (8 of that is sick leave) to use at my discretion.  For so many people today's time off would've been a huge financial blow.  I am fortunate.

If you work outside of the home, do you get time off or do you have to be very very careful how you spend it?  I've said before that having sick leave in the "bank" is really having money in an emergency fund.  That way you still get paid.  That can be such a comfort.  I mean what is worse than being sick then on top of that having to worry if you can pay the bills?  I know that would probably make me sicker.

I am using the chili tonight so we will see if we like that one.

Also trying this tonight for the first time in the chili

In addition I am reading a book.  the title is Enough.  It a about what really is enough and how do we get to that point?  The definition of enough will, I think, be different for everyone.   Just like simplicity.  No two people will be the same.  This book is written from a Christian perspective and I love that is opposite from the prosperity teachings that are so prevalent today.

Frugal Wins and Frugal Losses

This has been a really nice but cold weekend.  We had to turn the heat on since it was in the 30's last night and tonight we have a freeze warning.  I suppose that could be considered a frugal loss because some folks advise to just put on another sweater and deal with it.  Not us!

We went to a little town, Saxaphaw, NC.  DH has been wanting to go for ages so we took a short road trip on Saturday.  We went to a pub, The Eddy, and ordered 1 beer, 1 root beer and 2 appetizers.  The totals was just under $19.  Frugal loss.  We could've and should've packed a lunch but we like to try new pubs and restaurants.

From there we went to Mebane, NC to the Tanger Outlets.  I went to the Coach factory store and found a beautiful red bag.  Oh did I mention that I love love love purses?  Yes I do, it is ridiculous.  Dh said he would buy the purse for my November birthday.  I thought long and hard and...........voila!  I put the purse back.  I. did. NOT. buy. the. purse!  Major frugal win.  I was not totally purchase free though.  I went to the Hanes store and bought 2 large packages of Just My Size hose.  One in nude and one in barely black.  I NEEDED them.

So today I gave my tithe to our church, did a tad bit of grocery shopping.  I am kind of happy with myself.  I wasn't perfect like Frugalwoods but it is an accomplishment for me.

Here are a few photos from the weekend of pimento cheese fries, the Haw River and turtles!

these pimento cheese fries are in a word, DELICIOUS

do you see the turtles?

Frugal Soap Score! Sweet!!

Woot woot!!! I got both of these 8 packs of Dial soap for $4.23.  That is an AMAZING deal.  I have to use antibacterial soap due to weird skin conditions.  I take a daily antibiotic in a low dosage so that it is used as an anti inflamatory instead of antibiotic.  I got this amazing deal at Walgreens.  I am so glad I went there as I have been looking for good deals on Dial.
