How Do You Deal With Stress?

I ask because I don't deal with it very well. Now the only thing that really stresses me is my job. I toss and turn. Most nights its the last thought on my mind and the first thought upon waking up. I know this sounds ridiculous. So many people have real problems to stress about. Health problems. Marriages falling apart. Finances. Job loss. See I've always been an anxious person even as a child. I'm not proud of being anxious but I'm also not ashamed. I simply wish I wasn't. I wish I wasn't the worrier. I wish my mind didn't go over the same situations like a record that has a scratch on it.

So if you too are anxious, what helps you cope?

I love to read and I love libraries so I went to Cameron Village and spent a lovely hour.

Trader Joe's

I am blessed to have 2 stores somewhat near me. Many folks shop there for cheaper organic items. I don't really shop organic so I don't know how their prices compare. What I do like is their cheese selection. For a store that size their cheeses are amazing.

I've heard that Aldi and Trader Joe's have the same parent company. I can neither confirm nor deny.

Do you have one near you?  If so do you like it?

Target Savings

Between coupons, my Target cartwheel and Target Red Card I saved $21.81. This by no means equals Sluggy's savings but it's good for me. I plan on transferring the $$ to my savings account. That way I actually did save it.

Why Do Live Frugally/Simply?

Do you live this way to simply save money?  Is your budget so constrained that you have no choice?  Or possibly do you live simply so you have more to give to others?  I know that giving more to others seems counterproductive when you're trying to save but I think it helps us  as much as others.

I read some Mennonite bloggers and find it refreshing to read how they live their simple life because of their faith. And it is not a "simple" thing to do. Sometimes in fact most times, a simpler lifestyle takes more effort and thought. It involves really considering our purchases.  Are they REALLY necessary or a want?  I don't know about you but I find most of my purchases are wants. I find this everywhere in my house or it would not be so filled with junk.

Is anyone out there interested in a more simple life?  A simpler life may not be a more frugal life although I think the two have much in common.

Is anyone considering living with less , spending less to be able to give more?

A View of My Kitchen and Living Room/Den

I've never shown this online as I am not exactly a talented decorator.  I simply love so many blogs where you ladies decorate your homes with thrift store finds.  They look amazing.  Me..........not so much but here goes!

Today at Cardinal Cottage

It's been really cold with freezing rain today.  We did not go to church.  Our church is in another town and there were wrecks all over the place this morning so we stayed home.

I've been purging again.............throwing out, boxing up to take to the Salvation Army.  I've got so much more to go through.   This is such a long process.  I'm so scared that I am going to get rid of something that I will need at another time so I am tending to hold onto items instead of cutting the cord.

I've also been doing a bit of cleaning.

So what have you been up to today?

Inclement Weather Hurts the Budget

In today's News and Observer there is an article about snow days leading to hunger for those who get free meals at school. A single mom was interviewed. Her family was going through food so fast she could not keep up. She used funds put aside for utilities to buy more food.

This got me to thinking. What can someone do when funds are EXTREMELY tight but they have to feed 6 kids 3 meals a day. Usually they only plan on 1 meal a day.

Personally I think it best to slowly build a bit of your own emergency food supplies.
During the warmer months buy items that won't spoil such as canned soups, crackers, peanut butter, canned fruit. Flour, sugar and other items would be great to build a small stockpile. Buy a little bit at a time so it won't put a dent in your food budget. Even boxed Mac and cheese can be used in these situations. I know reading those words make some cringe but we are dealing with folks already on the edge. I think we can all agree that eating like this long term is not ideal but for short periods of time I think it's okay.

What do you do when the weather plays havoc on your finances?  When you have very little food and no $$ to spend?
