Sweet Movie Deal

So today I took a jar of coins to a Coinstar machine.  Instead of "cashing" them in, I chose to have a e card for Regal Entertainment.  The total was $35.21.  Now here is the good stuff.  That will pay for us to see probably 2 movies, then I have an e card to use for concessions.(this is worth $10.00).  Then I have a Regal card that you swipe when you use it and get points to redeem for free items.  So now I get a free small drink.  So the next movie we see will be FREE!!!!!

Sweet!

Food Waste

I am shocked at how much food I had to throw away today.  It is really a shame.  I had no idea what was in the fridge.  Stocking up is great if you use it up but not so much if you end up throwing it away.  I am ashamed and mad at myself.

I can try to do better from this point on.

Gourmet Hot Chocolate

We have a Keurig and I really enjoy it. Today I put in a Swiss Miss pod. Topped it off with whipped cream and chocolate syrup. I know there are many anti Keurig folks out there but this is cheaper than buying at a coffee shop. Not cheaper than made from scratch but ive not found a made from scratch that I actually like.

Oh My Delish Chicken

I got this recipe from Facebook and it is good. Put 4-6 chicken breasts in a 13 by 9 dish that has been greased. Top with sliced Swiss cheese. In a bowl mix 1/2 cup mayo (I used Miracle Whip), 1/2 cup sour cream, 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese ( I used a parm mixed with Romano) some garlic powder, salt and pepper. Pour this on top of chicken. Then  add more parm cheese. Bake for 1 hour at 375. Mmm mmm good

Christmas Music from My Church

I thought you may enjoy just 2 short videos of music from my church this morning. I normally don't video but the music was just so beautiful!

This and That

First thing-Happy Saint Nicholas Day!!

Now on to this and that!  I went to Target and purchased some much needed items.  Cetaphil skin cleanser (had a $2 off coupon), Target brand allergy medicine ($1.50 off store coupon).  I used a $5 Target gift card and then applied a 5% off Target RX rewards.  I was hoping to keep this under $20.00 but didn't quite make it.  It's amazing how expensive 2 items can be.

Below is a short video of the products I've used up recently.  As I say in the video.  I know some of ya'll will say big whoop but for someone who used to throw things away willy nilly this is a major improvement.

In all honesty I did throw some items away.   They bothered my asthma and allergies.  Too bad breathing is required to live.  LOL

Our New Car

I forgot to tell y'all we got a new car. Here it is!!

Last Minute Thanksgiving Buys

LThis year we are staying in G town. Just the 2 of us. We won't have a "spread" but a few things like ham, green bean casserole, deviled eggs, mashed potatoes and rolls. I had most items in my pantry (yah). I did buy the ham and rolls tonight. In addition I bought a pound of pork sausage and English muffins. I plan on cooking up the sausage, add a jar of cheese wiz and then put on cut English muffins.  Freeze and they come in handy for a tasty breakfast!!

Homemade pizza

I'm not that great a cook and in all honesty I don really enjoy it but groceries is one of the main areas we all can save big bucks. So today I whipped up a pizza.  Yes the crust was homemade. I actually used flour, oil, salt, sugar, yeast and water. Kneaded it a tad bit and voila! A crust. It's not the best tasting pizza I ever had but it was cheap, filling and not full of preservatives.

The hubster likes pepperoni and I'm a plain cheese kind of gal.

Car Update Numero Dos

The hubster got a call today from the repair shop.  Damages are over $6500.00.  The car is not worth that much according to Blue Book.  We were told that someone from STate Farm will be contacting us within 2-3 business days to discuss our options.  Sounds like it's totaled.  Not what we wanted to hear.  Now we have to get in the mindset of getting another car.  Oh joy, what fun!!

So very glad it is Friday and pay day for me.

Christmas Movie Love

I love Christmas movies.  I mean what is more fun than to watch movies that just make you feel good and they usually have snow and all that kind of good stuff.  It's kind of rare to have snow at Christmas here in North Carolina.  So I got to thinking about my favorite Christmas movies and here are 3.  I love many more than that but I can't think of them!  Of course I love almost all of the Hallmark movies this time of year.  So here goes:

I know, kind of sappy and feel good but what can I say?

How about you?  What movies do you love to watch over and over again at Christmas?

Car Update

well actually there isn't much to update.  The car repair shop called the hubster and told him they were in the process of taking apart the car to see what needs to be fixed and will call him tomorrow morning to give him either good news like how much it will cost to repair or bad news like we have to get another car.

We are really hoping it can be fixed!

Starting the Declutter Process

I'm not a minimalist by any definition of the word but I am one who as I get older can't stand clutter. In fact it can make me anxious. Hubby has the biggest bathroom. My counter space is limited. I didn't keep much on to begin with but now I'm cutting back more. I may put a candle on it but not sure about that. This is just a very small beginning to a very large project. I'm feeling confined by my junk.

What about you?  What is your decor style?  More is more or less is more?  I dread working on the rest of the house.

😜

What's the Hoopla About a Red Cup?

This hoopla is being blamed on conservative Christians.  I, for one, am a conservative Christian and I don't give 2 hoots about Starbucks' plain red cups.  And none of my conservative Christian friends care.  I mean, come on, we all have better things to worry about people.

For one, I find it very hard to find a consistent good tasting cup of coffee from Starbucks.  It may taste good one day but go somewhere else or another barista and it can taste awful.  Not to mention.........it is very expensive.   Now I am not saying that frugalistas should never buy Starbucks coffee or from other coffee shops but think about it how those costs add up.  Most like me probably buy a cup of coffee once in a great while and that is fine.  Heck it's fine if you buy a cup every day as long as you have it budgeted but is it really worth it to spend over $100 a month or more just for coffee?

I don't know about you but I will be ever so grateful when this story goes away.  It will be replace by other ridiculous stories but there is always hope!

For all of those who served in the armed forces a big THANK  YOU!  Everyone in this country should honor and respect you personally even if they don't agree with whatever wars that have happened.  Even if they hate the president in office.  Please respect those who are charged with providing freedom for the citizens of the US!

Hello Murphy!

Murphy happened. On my birthday no less. Dh hit a deer coming home way early this morning. He was driving back from the mountains after attending a horrible football game in which we lost. I got a phone call at 1:30 am telling me he was fine but he hit a deer. He was about an hour and a half away from home. The highway patrol officer had to shoot the deer to put it out of its misery.

The car had to be towed to Raleigh. Thank the Lord for triple A. Saved us a ton of money for towing. I picked him up about 4 in the morning.

We will be carpooling for quite some time as it will be about 3 weeks until they can start work on the car. That is IF it can be repaired. It may be declared totaled. I hope not as that means we will have to replace it. It's a 2009 Corolla so we won't get a lot of money for it. If it's fixable we only pay a $50 deductible. We really don't want to have to buy another car. And that is my biggest concern right now. We finally have an emergency fund. Not a huge one considering everything but all told about 7500.00. I was getting excited about reaching 10 grand by the end of the year. I know that's nowhere near where we should be but we are doing better. So disappointing to know if it weren't for my foolish spending over the years this would be just a blip on our screen.

I am so very thankful that no one was hurt.

Here's a pic of the car. Looks fixable to me but it wasn't drive able and I'm no mechanic.

An Aldi Treat

Run don't walk if you love salty sweet snacks. I bought this last night at Aldi and it's really good.

Forgive the photo. I took it at work against an ugly backdrop.

If you get the chance try them!

The More I Shop in Aldi

The more I love that store.  DH is an avowed Kroger man and they do have good prices here in NC.  They also carry some items that we can't get at Aldi but let me tell ya that Aldi is becoming one of my top 2 stores.

For you Aldi lovers out there-what items do you love the most and the least?

Food Trucks in Gtown!

Do you watch the Food Network?  If so did you watch the Food Truck Race?  A truck from Raleigh won it this year. Phenomenal Dumplings. They were part of the Food Truck group in my town of Garner. I've never eaten from a food truck so we gave it a try.

I got the dumplings made with pork and chives. It was really good. The hubster ate a fancy grilled cheese from The Great American Meltdown. It was superb!  We sat on a bench and people watched for a couple of hours. It really was fun.

Goodness Grows in NC

So I took a quick jaunt to the Farmers Market to buy some salsa and see the gorgeous fall colors in the flowers and veggies. Here are some glimpses in my morning:

Aren't those eggplants pretty?

this German bakery has yummy treats!

I love red bell peppers!

Nothing like fresh North Carolina seafood-it simply is the best!

The best salsa you will ever taste, I promise.

Fun in the NC Mountains

We took Thursday and Friday off to go to the mountains for a Thursday night football game. The weather was perfect and the sights were great. Plus it always helps to beat your most heated rivals. Here are some random pics of our time there

These photos are just a couple taken from sights around and in Kidd Brewer Stadium.  The mountains surround the stadium making it just beautiful.

The band always plays the Tennessee Waltz after every game.

These photos were taken out and about in the quaint Town of Blowing Rock, NC.  I so want to move there.  If you've ever read any of Jan Karon's books well rumor has it the town in the books is based on Blowing Rock!

The photos below were taken in the Six Pence Pub in Blowing Rock.  Great food and atmosphere!

McCormick Skillet Sauce Review-Chili

I made a pot of chili tonight using, obviously, McCormick's Skillet Sauce for Chili.  I like it but find it easier to get everything out of tomato sauce cans.  You have to keep squeezing the package to make sure you get everything out of it.  I would suggest getting scissors and cut it open to make sure you get every last drop!

I did not drain the beans nor the diced tomatoes.  My personal opinion would be to drain the tomatoes as it had too much of a tomato taste for us.  However, we added shredded sharp cheddar cheese and sour cream in our bowls and it was quite tasty.

Will I buy it again?  Yes I would!

Monday Thankfulness

Today sees me off at work.  In fact I only work 2 days this week.  Tuesday and Wednesday.  Thursday and Friday we will be having fun.  I took today off to take my car in for its 10,000 mile check up.  My appointment was at 8:30 and I got there at 8.  They had "free" Starbucks coffee and hot chocolate, muffins etc.  I say "free" because we bought my car new in January and I'm sure we are paying for alot of "free" things if you know what I mean.

Well...................afterwards I ran a few errands.  Thanks to ctonabudget.blogspot.com I bought 6 Mccormick sauces plus a 2016 small planner.  Then on to Aldi and bought a pound of organic ground beef for $6.99 a pound.

I was thinking today that I am thankful that I have a job in which to take a day off from.  Does that make sense?  There are a lot of people still looking for jobs or perhaps they have a job but it doesn't allow for much time off.  Maybe they get a weeks vacation and they don't want to waste one taking their car to the dealer for a check up.  So I am very grateful and thankful that I get 20 hours of time off a month (8 of that is sick leave) to use at my discretion.  For so many people today's time off would've been a huge financial blow.  I am fortunate.

If you work outside of the home, do you get time off or do you have to be very very careful how you spend it?  I've said before that having sick leave in the "bank" is really having money in an emergency fund.  That way you still get paid.  That can be such a comfort.  I mean what is worse than being sick then on top of that having to worry if you can pay the bills?  I know that would probably make me sicker.

I am using the chili tonight so we will see if we like that one.

Also trying this tonight for the first time in the chili

In addition I am reading a book.  the title is Enough.  It a about what really is enough and how do we get to that point?  The definition of enough will, I think, be different for everyone.   Just like simplicity.  No two people will be the same.  This book is written from a Christian perspective and I love that is opposite from the prosperity teachings that are so prevalent today.

Frugal Wins and Frugal Losses

This has been a really nice but cold weekend.  We had to turn the heat on since it was in the 30's last night and tonight we have a freeze warning.  I suppose that could be considered a frugal loss because some folks advise to just put on another sweater and deal with it.  Not us!

We went to a little town, Saxaphaw, NC.  DH has been wanting to go for ages so we took a short road trip on Saturday.  We went to a pub, The Eddy, and ordered 1 beer, 1 root beer and 2 appetizers.  The totals was just under $19.  Frugal loss.  We could've and should've packed a lunch but we like to try new pubs and restaurants.

From there we went to Mebane, NC to the Tanger Outlets.  I went to the Coach factory store and found a beautiful red bag.  Oh did I mention that I love love love purses?  Yes I do, it is ridiculous.  Dh said he would buy the purse for my November birthday.  I thought long and hard and...........voila!  I put the purse back.  I. did. NOT. buy. the. purse!  Major frugal win.  I was not totally purchase free though.  I went to the Hanes store and bought 2 large packages of Just My Size hose.  One in nude and one in barely black.  I NEEDED them.

So today I gave my tithe to our church, did a tad bit of grocery shopping.  I am kind of happy with myself.  I wasn't perfect like Frugalwoods but it is an accomplishment for me.

Here are a few photos from the weekend of pimento cheese fries, the Haw River and turtles!

these pimento cheese fries are in a word, DELICIOUS

do you see the turtles?

Frugal Soap Score! Sweet!!

Woot woot!!! I got both of these 8 packs of Dial soap for $4.23.  That is an AMAZING deal.  I have to use antibacterial soap due to weird skin conditions.  I take a daily antibiotic in a low dosage so that it is used as an anti inflamatory instead of antibiotic.  I got this amazing deal at Walgreens.  I am so glad I went there as I have been looking for good deals on Dial.
